Chapter Markers work like chapters in a book, dividing your episode into clear, labeled sections. These markers help listeners navigate your podcast, preview what’s ahead, or skip past spoilers. More and more podcast apps support Chapter Markers, and Buzzsprout makes adding them easy!
Adding Chapter Markers to Your Episodes
Start by clicking on the
Add Chapter Markers button within your episode details page.

On the following page, we'll show a waveform audio of your episode. To find placements for your chapters, you can:
- Play and pause the episode
- Adjust the playback speed
- Click through the waveform to jump to a timestamp
- Zoom in and out for precise placement

When you have a chapter placement, press
+ New Chapter. The timestamp on the waveform audio will be saved, and you can enter the following details:
- Title (required): Keep it short and simple. This is what listeners will see as your Chapter Marker.
- Timestamp (required): The timestamp from your waveform audio will show here, or you can type the desired start time for the chapter.
- Image (optional): If you have a specific image that goes along with your chapter, you can add it here.
- URL (optional): You can add links associated with each chapter, like sponsor links or referenced information.

Once you have added all your chapters, click the
Publish Changes button! Your Chapter Markers will be written into the audio file.
Pro-Tip: Cohost AI makes this even easier! When you enable Cohost AI and upload an episode to Buzzsprout, we'll create Chapter Markers for you.
When Should I Add Chapter Markers?
Add your Chapter Markers before you publish your episode. Because markers are embedded directly into the audio file, listeners who download the episode won’t receive updated chapters later.
Where Will My Chapter Markers Show?
We can guarantee that your Chapter Markers will show in Buzzsprout and your Buzzsprout website. While we can add Chapter Markers to your audio file, not all apps and directories will support them, so you might not see them on every listening platform.
More and more platforms are supporting Chapter Markers, including Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, and Overcast! There are multiple specifications for chapter images; Buzzsprout uses and supports the
Podcast Namespace.
