Transcripts can enhance both the accessibility and discoverability of your podcast, and we’re here to help you use them! Buzzsprout Transcripts will generate transcripts for your episodes, and you'll have access to our editor where you can review and make any necessary changes.
As you select each episode on Buzzsprout, you'll see the Add a Transcript button in the right-hand navigation menu. Click it to see the option to try out Buzzsprout Transcripts!
What to Expect
Your transcript isn't meant to be a word-for-word script, but a clear and accurate reflection of your episode's message. The goal is to capture the essence of your audio—not every single detail. The editor helps achieve that! You should only need about 15 minutes to quickly review your transcription and make important edits.
Toolbar Essentials
The toolbar is your command center for editing. Let's walk through each function:
- Speakers: In the Speaker menu, the editor automatically detects each speaker in your episode. You can preview a clip of each voice and assign names accordingly. Click the ... icon to select a different speaker, or start typing the speaker name into the box! Once you're done, click Save Speakers to apply your changes or Cancel to discard them.
- Undo/Redo Arrows: Made a mistake while editing? Use the undo and redo buttons in the toolbar to quickly go back or forward.
- Find and Replace Search: Click the Find icon to search for certain words or phrases. We'll highlight all matching results throughout the transcript. You can navigate between them using the arrow keys, replacing each text either individually or all at once by clicking Replace All.
- Episode Player: At the bottom of your screen, you'll find a player to listen to your episode. As it plays, each word in the transcript will highlight in sync with the audio! Here are a few tips for navigating the player:
- Double-click any word in the transcript to jump directly to that section in the episode player.
- Adjust the playback speed by clicking the 1x icon.
- Scroll through the transcript, and click Jump to Play Position to return to the current spot in the audio.
Editing Your Transcript
Now that you know the key functions of the transcript editors, here are a few actions you can take:
- Line Breaks: Press return/enter once to create a new line in your transcript.
- New Monologues: Press return/enter twice to start a fresh monologue with a new speaker.
- Add Words or Phrases: If you see missing words or content, you can add them to your transcript. Note: We recommend doing this only for essential words, as adding content can disrupt the timestamps linked to each word in the transcript.
- Edit Speakers: The Speaker option allows you to change the names assigned to each speaker.
- Replace Words: Search your transcript to replace words with the Find icon. Note: This function will be great for typos. For example, if your speaker name isn't capitalized, you can find and replace it with the capitalized name!
Once you’ve polished your transcript, don’t forget to click the
Save button so your changes stick.
